“Everything we accomplished feels like it takes forever,” says David Koubek. “On the other hand we always have to look at the big picture.”

David, his wife, Jessica, and their four children own and live on a farm in Bremen, Maine. They balance their days between homeschooling, baking bread and practicing prayer. David worked full time at a wooden boat company until 2011. He said, “It was great but we both realized that we wanted to be home as a family.”

In 2008, David and Jessica made a plan to save money to build a farm and transition into a more sustainable family-focused lifestyle. The couple was inspired by friends who were homeschooling and farming at the same time, and they realized the whole idea of working and living together as a family unit was exactly what they wanted.

They created a way of life where they work hard to maintain their independent choices, the space where they live and the path they forge ahead.
